GRANDPARENTS DAY

First Sunday after Labor Day

Sept 7, 2014 is the first Sunday after Labor Day and as such, paternal and maternal grandparents will be honored in the U.S.  Senators Robert Byrd and Williams Jennings promoted Grandparents Day during the administration of President Carter in the 1970s.

Marian McQuade is known as the Founder of Grandparents Day.  She believes that the nation must continue to acknowledge the valuable contributions of grandparents throughout the years.

“Adopt a grandparent, not just for one day, but for a lifetime,” says Marian McQuade of Oak Hill, West Virginia. 

FORGET ME NOT…..

Forget-me-not is a flower which blooms in the spring.  It is the official flower to be presented as a gift on Grandparents Day.
