CHOLLA CACTUS

 

Shrubby cacti called cholla are a species of cactus. 

The Papago Indians in Arizona have used amaranth and cholla cactus for sustenance for thousands of years.  Also known as the Tono Odham (????spelling), Pima and Papago Indians and other Native Americans of Arizona have been studied related to health issues such as diabetes and obesity.

NOTE:

A diet of natural plants and herbs suits their body well.  They became obese when the Europeans introduced them to white flour and sugar, very unnatural to their original eating habits.
